Main Compartment and TukTop Feature

The main compartment is padded on all four sides, plus the base.

Behind the walls at the back and front is a slim space, made of 2 pockets each (4 in total). Ideal for manuals, lens filters etc.

The zips can also be tucked down this space to keep them out your way during use. We call this the 'Tuk-Top' feature. You can still store slim gear in the space while using the Tuk-Top feature.

Front pockets

On the front of the bag are two generously sized dump pockets. These are perfect for film, cables, batteries, spare memory cards etc - helping you keep your bag organised whilst maximising the efficiency when you need it most.

The secondary flap shown protects these pockets from dust, weather and unwanted fingers. It closes with its own dedicated QRS straps – just lift them up-and-off the brass clogball to access the pockets.

Full width front zip pocket

The 445 has a full length zip pocket with enough space for a 16" MacBook Pro in a slim slipcase.

Two padded pockets can be found inside the full length pocket, ideal for small lenses, small flashes or lavalier mics.

Please note carrying a laptop may limit what you can carry in the two padded pockets. In addition, the Billingham 13" Laptop Slip will fit but our 15" Laptop Slip is a little too big due to the leather trim.

Rear zip pocket

A rear zipped pocket the width of the bag is ideal for carrying maps, tickets and any slim items that you don't want to have to access the main compartment to get to.

Brass feet

All of our '5 series' bags (225, 335, 445 and 555) have brass feet mounted to strong leather corner patches. Together these help prevent wear to the corners of the bag and extend it's longevity.

Leather grab handle

For the upmost comfort whilst carrying heavy items.

The bag has an extra internal webbing strap at the back – together with the front handle (that has the grab handle attached) it can be used to carry the bag safely even when it's open.

Zip on main compartment

The delta sling is stitched into the strong leather side patches.

These provide a firm fixing point for the sling and also give structure to the bag.

Ability to attach a delta pocket

The shoulder sling is made of strong woven polyester with a brass fixing to allow you to adjust the length to suit your height and shooting style.

Where the shoulder sling attaches to the bag it splits into an inverted 'Y' shape at each end. This split sling helps with weight distribution which in turn helps to keep the bag steady and level when carrying a heavy load.

The bottom ends of this split sling is also where optional Delta Pockets can be clipped on to, providing extra space or organisation when you need it.

Quick Release Straps with Tripod loops

The Quick Release System to open the top flap has been adapted so that the top grain leather straps pass through solid brass 'D' rings at the end of the webbing carry handles.

The bag was designed this way to provide fast, secure closure even when the bag is heavily loaded. The strong webbing and brass D-rings bear the brunt of the weight.

At the bottom of the bag are fixings front and back for optional Tripod Straps.

Please note this pocket is only padded on one side so you may wish to add a slim case for extra protection.

No. All of our bags are made of 3 layers that are bonded together; the outside Canvas or FibreNyte, a middle layer of butyl rubber and the internal lining. It is this middle layer of butyl rubber that prevents water passing through, therefore your bag will not need re-proofing.

We strongly recommend not putting your bag in a washing machine or exposing it to harsh chemicals as this will break down the butyl rubber and therefore the bag will no longer be waterproof.

If you get a hole in the fabric, this can also mean the bag is no longer waterproof and we recommend contacting us as we offer a repair service.

In simple terms ‘Canvas’ or ‘FibreNyte’ refers to the top, outer layer of fabric on our bags – the facecloth.

‘Canvas’ is a mix of cotton and polyester. ‘FibreNyte’ refers to our face fabric that is completely synthetic. Canvas is hard wearing, FibreNyte is very hard wearing.

Both fabrics are bonded to a non-wicking polyester backing fabric with a middle layer butyl rubber – this rubber layer makes both fabrics equally (and very) waterproof. Water can’t get through that rubber layer.

Both fabrics have a similar weave - the FibreNyte looks similar to canvas. Canvas is slightly softer to the touch, FibreNyte is slightly rougher to the touch.

Canvas is the preferred option for anyone that wants their bag to age gracefully and have that vintage look over time. This is particularly true of people who choose our ‘Khaki Canvas’ fabric as this looks particularly lovely as it ages.

If you prefer your bag to look newer and keep its colour for longer, FibreNyte is a better option. It is also harder wearing, particularly if you are going to be working your bag hard, hiking, taking it out every day and filling it to the brink regularly. If you are considering a black bag, we recommend considering FibreNyte.

No - on this bag the padding is sewn into the walls of the bag. However, the padded dividers are removable (they attach inside with Velcro®).

I’ve owned a 445 (chosen to fit Metz flash) for over 30 years. First few years it was out on jobs with me full time, often doing access photography, then a career switch to using photos in art therapy meant it got a gentler life. The dividers collapsed & were easily replaced. This bag has carried everything from 35mm film to 5x4 field cameras, it fits in plane overhead lockers & can carry spare shirt/pants/socks around your kit

445 Camera Bag Sage FibreNyte / Tan Leather

The 445 is the second Billingham bag I’ve bought - different sizes/styles, not because there was an issue with the first. Quality is second to none, they feel incredibly well-made, with no imperfections or defects in sight. The design is very timeless and well-thought out, with simple to operate straps and features. They take a bit of getting used to, but that’s because they’re designed to be difficult to undo and steal from if you’re not familiar with them. Inside material is all of high quality too, and the removable dividers make it easy to suit the bag to your kit. My only slight complaint would be that some bags are available in more colour combos than others. For example my smaller bag is Chocolate and Burgundy but the 445 isn’t available in that colour. Having said that, the similar design language between the whole range means that most different combinations still look good together. I’d recommend any of Billingham’s bags and I likely won’t ever buy a different brand… they’re just too good.

Billingham 445 Camera Bag - Black Canvas / Tan Leather

Bigger than my 335, but without the bulk of my 550, the 445 is the ideal size for carrying two DSLR bodies plus a few shorter lenses. Typical build quality; I’ve just used the customisation service to try the imperial blue colour. A great experience overall, and it arrived in just over two weeks, quicker than expected.
