The 'Galbin 8' and 'Galbin 10' binocular cases are precision-engineered to offer the greatest level of protection for valuable optics equipment when travelling, out in the field or in transit.

One the most notable aspects of the bag is the effort we've gone to to keep the weather out of it. Each case is made Billingham's waterproof 3-layer canvas or 3-layer FibreNyte materials that never require reproofing and remain moisture-resistant for the whole lifetime of the bag. Our canvas is hardwearing and our FibreNyte an even harder wearing material that is colour-fast and delivers exceptional durability and protection against wear and tear.

In addition to this waterproof material the bag features a contoured outer main flap, as well as an internal soft cover with drawstring cord fastener and secure toggle lock, affording additional defence against both dust and inclement weather conditions.

The bags incorporate the Billingham’s Quick Release System - a strong leather strap with a solid brass ‘clogball’ fastener positioned on the front of the bag to allow the owner to gain access to equipment, quickly and quietly, the instant it is needed. This flexible mechanism avoids the risk of disturbing the subjects being observed, and allows rapid access to the bag - with a little practice you should be able to open and close it one-handed.

On the side of the bag are two solid brass D-rings - these can be used to quickly attach and detach the removable shoulder sling (included), also with the QRS system. The shoulder sling is adjustable for length and is made from high strength shuttle-woven polyester.

On the reverse of the bag are two sturdy leather reinforced straps that are secured by press studs, these enable secure attachment to a waist-belt (up to 6cm wide) for optimum portability.

We have integrated a handy slip pocket into the design at the back of the main compartment, for the storage of rainguards, objective lens covers, notebooks, accessories or mobile phones.

In addition to its high quality canvas the bag features top-grain leather and solid brass fixings. It is made at our own factory in Cradley Heath, England. The bag is protected by Billingham's 5 year manufacturer's guarantee.

Does this bag need re-proofing to keep it waterproof?
No. The fabric is made of 3 layers - the middle layer is butyl rubber. Water cannopass through this butyl rubber layer. As long as you don't get a hole in the fabric or expose it to harsh chemicals (for example in a washing machine) the fabric should remain waterproof for many years. There is no need to apply re-proofing.

What is the difference between 'Canvas' and 'FibreNyte'?
In simple terms ‘Canvas’ or ‘FibreNyte’ refers to top layer of fabric on our bags – the facecloth.

‘Canvas’ is a mix of cotton and polyester. ‘FibreNyte’ refers to our face fabric that is completely synthetic. Canvas is hard wearing, FibreNyte is very hard wearing.

Both fabrics are bonded to a non-wicking polyester backing fabric with a middle layer butyl rubber – this rubber layer makes both fabrics equally (and very) waterproof. Water can’t get through that rubber layer.

Both fabrics have a similar weave - the FibreNyte looks similar to canvas. Canvas is slightly softer to the touch, FibreNyte is slightly rougher to the touch.

People tend to choose Canvas if they want the bag to age gracefully and look vintage over time. This is particularly true of people who chose our ‘Khaki Canvas’ fabric as this looks particularly lovely as it ages.

People tend to choose FibreNyte if they want the bag to look newer for longer or if they are particularly hard on their gear - for example by carrying the bag to work with them every day, doing a lot of hiking or filling it particularly full. If you are buying a black bag it’s particularly worth considering FibreNyte as it will stay looking blacker longer. Also Sage FibreNyte is particularly attractive as a colour – it’s probably the most popular colour among our staff!

Is the shoulder sling removable?
Yes the shoulder sling can be removed (and reattached after).

Will the bag stand up on its own?
No, the bottom is curved.

Is the length of the shoulder sling adjustable?
Yes it is!

Can you attach a shoulder pad to the shoulder sling?
Yes - the SP10 shoulder pad fits.

Can this be used as a side pocket for any of your other bags?
On most of them no, on some yes - but the Galbin is wider than the bags it will attach to are deep front to back. We'll publish more information soon - we wouldn't recommend purchasing them for this purpose though.

Could this be used to carry a camera?
A small one with a small lens would fit nicely - especially in the Galbin 10.

I have heard some of these come with Leica branding? If I order from you will it come Leica branded?
If you order from us it will come WITHOUT Leica branding.

Leica branding is only included on bags bought from Leica Mayfair, Leica City (London) and Leica Manchester
