The first and most obvious feature of the Eventer, and the one that gives the bag its distinctive look, is the protective leather base. The lower quarter is covered in the same top grain leather we use in all our products. Carefully selected and treated before it is cut and worked into the desired shape, these large pieces give the Eventer its strength and structure whilst also helping to form the two front dump pockets. These pockets share a covering flap that is secured using our ClogBall and strap system, which is used both here and again for the main rain flap.
The side patches are made from the same thick leather as the base and provide an anchor point for the shoulder sling. Solid brass fittings are used throughout, and slides on the webbing allow you to adjust the shoulder sling length to your preferred carrying or working height. Whether low slung toolbox or a safe and secure travel companion the Eventer simply works.
Binding to finish off the flaps is cut from the same vegetable tanned hides used on all of our bags.
Across the top of the main flap, a sturdy reinforcement gives the woven web handle a firm response. Safely stitched into a wide leather strap across the back, the entire assembly forms part of the bags structural frame.
The supplied removable padded insert can be used to store your camera gear in, and that in turn can be subdivided with the two vertical and two horizontal padded dividers also included. The back of the insert features an extra padded compartment for a 13" inch laptop or Macbook Pro/Air.
Removing the bag's insert turns the Eventer into a roomy briefcase or overnight bag. The twin zips on the main compartment add security. To complete the picture the Eventer also has a full width back pocket secured by a zip fastening which means it has convenient and accessible storage for passports, tickets, maps and documents.
Like all Billingham camera bags the Eventer is made of Stormblock fabric (lined with butyl rubber) for exceptional weather resistance and comes with our 5 year manufacturers guarantee.

Will this bag fit a 13 inch MacBook Pro or MacBook Air?
Yes it will. It features a padded slipcase built into the padded insert for this purpose.
Will this bag fit a 15 inch MacBook Pro?
No, unfortunately the padded slipcase inside is just a little too small to fit a 15 inch MacBook (even the new one!).
Does this bag need re-proofing to keep it waterproof?
No. The fabric is made of 3 layers - the middle layer is butyl rubber. Water cannot pass through this butyl rubber layer. As long as you don't get a hole in the fabric or expose it to harsh chemicals (for example in a washing machine) the fabric should remain waterproof for many years. There is no need to apply re-proofing.
Why can't I find this bag in stores?
We recently made this bag available only direct from us. Some stores who ordered just before that change may have stock but it will become rarer to see it at retail.
Which shoulder pad fits this bag?
The SP50 shoulder pad fits this bag - it is already included in the price so you only need to buy it if you have lost or damaged yours.
What is the difference between 'Canvas' and 'FibreNyte'?
In simple terms ‘Canvas’ or ‘FibreNyte’ refers to top layer of fabric on our bags – the facecloth.
‘Canvas’ is a mix of cotton and polyester. ‘FibreNyte’ refers to our face fabric that is completely synthetic. Canvas is hard wearing, FibreNyte is very hard wearing.
Both fabrics are bonded to a non-wicking polyester backing fabric with a middle layer butyl rubber – this rubber layer makes both fabrics equally (and very) waterproof. Water can’t get through that rubber layer.
Both fabrics have a similar weave - the FibreNyte looks similar to canvas. Canvas is slightly softer to the touch, FibreNyte is slightly rougher to the touch.
People tend to choose Canvas if they want the bag to age gracefully and look vintage over time. This is particularly true of people who chose our ‘Khaki Canvas’ fabric as this looks particularly lovely as it ages.
People tend to choose FibreNyte if they want the bag to look newer for longer or if they are particularly hard on their gear - for example by carrying the bag to work with them every day, doing a lot of hiking or filling it particularly full. If you are buying a black bag it’s particularly worth considering FibreNyte as it will stay looking blacker longer. Also Sage FibreNyte is particularly attractive as a colour – it’s probably the most popular colour among our staff!
