The '72' is our latest camera bag - purpose built for those who want to carry just one small camera with a high degree of protection.
Within the interior of this compact bag, the padding that makes up the front, rear and side walls of its body is constructed from two overlapping layers of closed cell foam cut in different patterns – keeping all edges and corners fully protected. Further padding has been sewn into the bottom of the bag, and we have also included a removable padded base. Beneath the outer lid is a top flap, once again made of foam, protecting the camera on all six sides in the event of a knock or fall.
With an outer body constructed of either Billingham 3 layer canvas or FibreNyte, the Billingham 72 offers the ultimate in water resistance and provides full defence against inclement weather conditions. Both materials are hard-wearing yet lightweight and never require reproofing, remaining moisture- and heat-resistant for their entire life. FibreNyte is an extra-rugged material that is more colour-fast and delivers even better protection against wear and tear.
The robust outer fabric, together with the contoured main flap that reaches over the sides of the bag, means your camera will be protected whatever the weather.
The bag’s Quick Release System comprises a strong leather tab and brass ClogBall, enabling fast opening with one hand to retrieve the camera, while securing the equipment in transit. Each model is reinforced with the finest top-grain leather, and all fittings are made from solid brass.
The shoulder sling is extra strong and made of shuttle-woven spun polyester. It can be adjusted for length or removed completely – making it ideal to carry as a shoulder bag itself, or as a storage case inside another bag whilst travelling, such as our Weekender bag. On the rear of the bag we have also included a wide belt loop for those who prefer to keep their camera a little closer.
A vertical padded divider attached with Velcro® is included with the Billingham 72, enabling the photographer to configure the bag and adjust it to fit their individual requirements. For cameras with slightly larger lenses attached, the divider can be re-positioned or removed to create more space.
A small pocket on the front provides storage for a spare battery, lens cap or memory cards.
As with all Billingham bags, the 72 is manufactured with extreme precision, meeting meticulous technical standards. Once it has passed Billingham’s strict quality controls, each bag is adorned with a laser-engraved woven label containing an individual 10-digit barcoded serial number as part of the company’s Unique Identifier (UI) system, allowing the bag to be registered, identified and tracked throughout its life.
At 150 x 130 x 190mm (WxDxH), the Billingham 72 is the ideal size for premium fixed lens cameras such as the Leica Q (with lens hood), Leica Q2 (with lens hood), Fujifilm X100 range (with lens hood) or Sony DSC-RX1R series, and many small mirrorless system cameras with one small standard lens, such as the Fujifilm X-T2, Olympus OMD E-M series, Leica M rangefinders or Canon EOS M kits. It is also ideal for many old 35mm (and even a few 120 film) cameras of a similar size.
The bag itself, with shoulder sling attached, weighs just 0.46kg (1.01 lbs).
The 72 is covered by our 5 year manufacturer’s guarantee and is made at our factory in England.

Will this bag fit a Leica Q?
Yes! It fits great even with the grip attached.
Will this bag fit a Leica M?
Yes, it will a Leica M as long as the lens isn't too long. You need the distance from the back of the camera to the front of the lens to be 110mm or less.
Does this bag need re-proofing to keep it waterproof?
No. The fabric is made of 3 layers - the middle layer is butyl rubber. Water cannot pass through this butyl rubber layer. As long as you don't get a hole in the fabric or expose it to harsh chemicals (for example in a washing machine) the fabric should remain waterproof for many years. There is no need to apply re-proofing.
What is the difference between 'Canvas' and 'FibreNyte'?
In simple terms ‘Canvas’ or ‘FibreNyte’ refers to top layer of fabric on our bags – the facecloth.
‘Canvas’ is a mix of cotton and polyester. ‘FibreNyte’ refers to our face fabric that is completely synthetic. Canvas is hard wearing, FibreNyte is very hard wearing.
Both fabrics are bonded to a non-wicking polyester backing fabric with a middle layer butyl rubber – this rubber layer makes both fabrics equally (and very) waterproof. Water can’t get through that rubber layer.
Both fabrics have a similar weave - the FibreNyte looks similar to canvas. Canvas is slightly softer to the touch, FibreNyte is slightly rougher to the touch.
People tend to choose Canvas if they want the bag to age gracefully and look vintage over time. This is particularly true of people who chose our ‘Khaki Canvas’ fabric as this looks particularly lovely as it ages.
People tend to choose FibreNyte if they want the bag to look newer for longer or if they are particularly hard on their gear - for example by carrying the bag to work with them every day, doing a lot of hiking or filling it particularly full. If you are buying a black bag it’s particularly worth considering FibreNyte as it will stay looking blacker longer. Also Sage FibreNyte is particularly attractive as a colour – it’s probably the most popular colour among our staff!
